The Vienna Boys' Choir Is Making a Film
Or rather: Curt Faudon is making a film with (and about) The Vienna Boys’ Choir. There are hundreds of documentaries on the choir, but the last feature film dates to 1961: That was Disney's Almost Angels (alternative title: Born to Sing). High time that this project came along!
Point of departure of Curt Faudon's stunning mixture of feature film and documentary is the Choir's Silk Road Project. The film will show the choristers' normal nomadic life in Korea, Japan, Canada, the USA, Germany and, obviously, on the Silk Road itself; the soundtrack will offer everything from medieval chansons and Renaissance music to masses and lieder by Schubert, and includes unexpected highlights from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, China and Mongolia. The film will be shot in HD format, and with Dolby Surround Sound.
In addition to the professional cinematographers, two choristers will provide fly-on-the-wall material. Shooting begins in November and finishes in May; the sound recordings will take place in February and March. The film and soundtrack will be available on DVD and audio CD next autumn.
